If you love fairy tales then you possibly love the Once Upon a Time TV drama series. The drama broadcasts on ABC. It premiered on 23rd October 2011. The first season of this series has 22 episodes. The story is about Snow White and Prince Charming who are cursed by evil Queen on their wedding day. The curse is that the couple will be taken far away where they will be isolated from others only to be saved by their daughter after she turns 28 years. The daughter named Emma survived the curse when she used the magical tree from the wardrobe to escape.

True to this curse, on the day of Emma’s birth, Snow White and Prince Charming are taken away but they manage to place Emma on the wardrobe and she survives. Emma lives a lonely life in Boston. She got a son at 18 years and named him Henry but she gave him away for adoption to the evil Queen. When Henry turned 10, Emma was 28, he approached Emma but she is hesitant to bond with him.
Henry informs Emma about the reality of everyone around them being fairy and without memory as a result of curse from evil queen who is the mayor of the town. Apparently, Emma’s mother now known as Mary Margaret Blanchard is his teacher. He reveals that only Emma can break the curse. Emma does not buy his stories and takes him back to his adopted mother. Henry runs away again and this forces Emma to hang around for a while.
The turning point is when it dawns on Emma that the evil queen’s curse made his father lose his memory and stay in coma all this while. Emma is determined to pay back the queen for her evil. She teams up with Henry to send his teacher to read for John Doe at the hospital. John wakes up and runs away from hospital. The three find him and mayor is forced to show him his wife. It is clear that she has a crush on John.

This episode was titled ‘An Apple Red as Blood‘. And it showed that as much as Regina has a strong hold on her curse it also has a deep hold on her as the pressure of seeing to the survival of her tree was getting to her. She was in a nightmarish dream which was capped with Henry ominously holding a hangman’s noose as if to foretell the future.

But it did look as if the curse was weakening especially when the apples started to rot. It did look like a bad sign for the Evil Queen. But fans got to know from both Regina and Mr. Gold that the curse remained intact as long as Emma was still alive but this did not say that it could not weaken since the tree was not shown to be dead and only the apples were shown to be rotting.
But Emma’s death would mean the curse would be broken and aside from that, it looks as if she was the only person that could naturally break the curse even if she was alive. Things were dire for Mr. Gold who actually thought that thing would unravel and he was already looking out for an exit plan. He contributed in weaving the curse and when he thought it would be broken he started planning to ‘travel’.
Emma on her part was still an unbeliever. It was kind of ironical that a person that had so much going on her did not really believe in all what everyone was ranting about. She did have a sense that she must do something for Henry but it was clear that she may now be willing to just go with the flow without understanding what was really going on.
As for Henry, August had to tell him that he had given up hope trying to convince Emma about the reality of the curse. He was turning back to wood by the day but it was now left to the eleven year old to try and convince her. But a surprise appearance was from the Mad Hatter who was summoned by Regina in her chamber of hearts. Fans got to know that there was not much magic in Storybrooke except for what Regina brought with her from the Fairy world. There wasn’t much of it left but she used almost all to bring the Mad Hatter back to cause havoc but it was something that she later regretted.
But she did not see Emma’s response coming as she took the Pastry with the intention of giving it to Henry. It was not as if she intended giving it to him but Henry seemed to be the only one that was going to play the hero. In the other world, Snow had mustered an army of dwarves and fairies to try and recue Charming but all the Evil Queen had to do was to threaten that she would kill him for Snow to capitulate. It was an interesting episode.
